5. Toyota 2000 GT is my in my number five spot. I love this car because it is aesthetically beautiful. The lines sweep down on the rear quarter panel towards the tail as they casually cascade away from the long sloping bonnet. The placement of the side mirrors and overall styling puts you in the mind of the classic Jaguar E-Type. Even though, by class, they are worlds apart, by shear beauty alone they are kindred spirits. This car is should be considered visual art.
4. The Nissan GT-R takes the number 4 position. This car is the giant killer. It is not the best looking vehicle in my line up, but it is one of the most exciting!! When it was first released, it had all these stipulations and different restrictions on modifications. You couldn't even put aftermarket parts or wheels on it for a long time without voiding the warranty. Once people got beyond that (and the transmission issues during launch) the possibilities of tuning became endless for this beast!! With just a few bolt on parts and tuning, the horsepower of this monster can skyrocket from a modest 545 to like a gazillion!! And for the price, "bang for your buck" is an understatement.
3. The Porsche 918 rolls in (quietly) at number 3. This car is just scientifically phenomenal!! It is what a hybrid should be. Now I know that everyone is clamoring about the P1 and it is REALLY nice, but the 918 is equally nice, its better looking and it has navigation. Now to some, this means absolutely nothing, but for me, it shows that Porsche is still the king of building functional super cars that you can drive as well as enjoy daily. Sorry McLaren, I really do like the P1, but when I am ready to drop 800k on a new super car, Porsche will be receiving my check.
1. There are some great cars on this list, but my number 1 pic, in my opinion, is the perfect combination of each of the vehicles that preceded it. My number one choice for the Driven™Top 5 countdown is none other than…..the Pagani Huayra.
If all the symphonies, paintings and poetry of the world could be melted down and made into a car, that car would be the Pagani Huayra. This machine is beautiful from every angle both inside and out. The unrelenting 750 horsepower of the twin turbo, AMG V-12 would be enough to make Mother Teresa cuss like a dirty south rapper every time her loafer touched the accelerator. The carbon fiber body is like that of a fitness model who has trained tirelessly for months to compete in a competition that she was destined to win whether she showed up or not. And the interior is every 7 star hotel room in Dubai condensed down to a single tailor made cockpit. The gratuitous use of carbon fiber, leather and aluminum in this thing is mind blowing. To merely see this car is gratifying enough, so owing one would have to be like dying everyday single day and going to heaven, but being able to rise from the dead the next morning and live your life like it never happened. This car should be sold in the Smithsonian.
